ABOUT
CAROLINE REED KING
THE ARTIST BEHIND DOUBLE E STUDIO
Caroline Reed King is a South Carolina artist based in Columbia. She is best known for her whimsical abstract designs and chic low-country symbolism. Caroline has a unique flair for balancing bold colors with calming coastal hues to match the imagery in each work she creates. Caroline spent most of her childhood between the coast of the Carolinas and continues to draw from this as inspiration in her paintings. Her work showcases recognizable imagery and the viewers longing for the relaxation of the coast.
Double E symbolizes the childhood years when Caroline went by her middle name, Reed. When introducing herself, she would always get asked if her name was spelled with an “IE” or “EE,” and she would always answer that it was with a Double E. The cursive double E of her signature symbolizes the effortless whimsy of the coastal low-country and her artwork.
Caroline is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, and spent summers at her family condo in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. At this condo in 2010, she would meet her future boyfriend, Alex Mende. He is why she relocated to South Carolina, and they enjoy traveling along the coasts of the Carolinas together. From small towns to large cities, Caroline’s paintings offer a break from everyday stress and transport viewers to an idyllic beachside memory.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
My paintings celebrate the effortless and chic lifestyle of the Low-Country through color, shape, and rhythm. I primarily work with acrylic and latex paint on canvas and paper, with a pallet full of monochromatic coastal hues and pops of vibrant tones. Through my work, I hope to invite viewers to the calming beauty of the Carolinas and share my adoration for this region.
